PADI Instructor Development Course

Do you feel a sense of excitement and accomplishment out of helping other people learn new skills?  Would you like to be able to change people's lives by introducing them to the exciting world of diving?  Are you interested in passing along your knowledge, skills, and excitement about diving to a new generation of divers?  If so, then you may be ready to take the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) and then proceed to take the PADI Instructor Examination (IE) in Order to qualify as a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor.

The IDC can only be taught at a PADI 5 Star Instructor Development Center and it must be taught by a PADI Course Director.  Persons certified as IDC Staff Instructor or Master Instructor can assist and may teach some of the course modules, but ultimately the Course Director bears responsibility for the quality and completeness of the instruction.  Aquarius Dive Shop is the only PADI facility in Monterey with a full-time resident Course Director, so we are the place you want to go for your Instructor Development Course.

Prerequisites:  To enroll in an IDC, you must:

• Already be certified as a PADI Divemaster, or equivalent  
• Have current CPR and First Aid training
• Have proof of at least 60 logged dives before beginning training
• Submit a completed RSTC Medical form which has been signed (within the previous 12 months) by a physician indicating you are cleared for diving.  To obtain a medical release form, download the RSTC Medical Release Form here.

Before you begin the IDC, you must complete the PADI eLearning - Instructor Development Course first.  This can be done at your leisure and in the comfort of your own home, but you must complete it no more than 12 months before the IDC begins.  To enroll in this course, click on the link below and get started now:

 

Required Materials:  The PADI Instructor Development Course crewpak includes all the materials needed to prepare for the Instructor Development Course. The 19-item pack includes:

• PADI's Guide to Teaching
• Aquatic cue cards for PADI’s core courses (Open Water and Advanced, Rescue and Divemaster)
• Lesson planning slates for confined and open water
• Quiz and exam booklets for the core courses
• Specialty Instructor Manual on CD-ROM
• Law and the Diving Professional, Children & Scuba Diving, The Business of Diving, and the Best of the Undersea Journal books all on CD-ROM
• How to Use and Choose Dive Computers book

This is available from Aquarius Dive Shop.  Please note that the IDC Crewpak does not include the PADI Instructor Manual, since under 2010 training standards all Divemaster candidates are required to have a personal copy of the Instructor Manual.  If you do not already have one, you will need to obtain a copy before taking the IDC.

Tuition:  The total IDC training fee is $1550 and is due before the start of the course.  (Please note that this does not include the Instructor Examination fee or the Instructor Application fee, both of which are payable directly to PADI.)  

Schedule:  The Instructor Examinations scheduled for Monterey in 2010 will be held on the following dates:

• May 8 & 9
• September 11 & 12

We have scheduled Instructor Development Courses to mesh perfectly with these dates:

Note:  Based on the needs of the candidates enrolled in the IDC, we can be somewhat flexible on the above dates.  If there is a day or two in the above you cannot make because of a schedule conflict, you should not rule out taking that particular IDC.  We may be able to rearrange the schedule to accommodate your scheduling conflict and still get in the needed six full days of training for the entire class.

IE PASS GUARANTEE:  If you take your full IDC from Aquarius and are not successful with the Instructor Examination, we will continue working with you at no extra charge until you are successful at a subsequent attempt.
