What We Offer...
At Aquarius Dive Shop, we offer training for every step of the PADI development process from Open Water Diver through IDC Staff Instructor. And if you want to go even further than that, we can help advise you on the steps you'll need to follow to go as far as you want to go!

Step One: DIVEMASTER. This is the entry point to become a PADI Professional. Divemaster training normally takes a minimum of 3 months, though it is possible to do it in less. The training is very much one-on-one, with your instructor guiding and coaching as you complete the various requirements. At any given point in time, we normally have several people who are at various stages of completion of this training. You can start at any time, and we will be glad to work with you in whatever way is needed to develop your professional capabilities. Please see our DIVEMASTER page for more information on this exciting program.
Step Two: ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR. Becoming an Assistant Instructor allows you to perform many more functions during student training than is possible as a divemaster. However, the annual PADI membership fee and the liability insurance rates are no higher for an Assistant Instructor than they are for a Divemaster. Thus for people who want to help in training but don't want the responsibility of being the instructor, this is the optimal professional level. See our page on ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR for more information on becoming an Assistant Instructor.
Step Three: EMERGENCY FIRST RESPONSE INSTRUCTOR. Starting in 2009, PADI standards will require that all persons applying to take the Instructor Examination must be certified as EFR Instructor (or equivalent). While EFR Instructor is not a prerequisite for any other course, it will be required to move on to OWSI. Teaching EFR can be both fun and rewarding, and this course is of interest to non-divers as well as divers. The EFR courses follow the emergency considerations and protocols from the Basic Life Support (BLS) Working Group of the International Liaison Committee on Resusication (ILCOR). As such, these courses have widespread recognition and broad appeal. See our page on EFR INSTRUCTOR to learn how you can qualify to teach these important programs.
Step Four: OPEN WATER SCUBA INSTRUCTOR. By successfully completing the Instructor Development Course, you can qualify to take the PADI Instructor Examination and then be certified as a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor. This will qualify you to teach courses from PADI Scuba Diver through Divemaster, and it is your ticket to some really fun jobs. Dive resorts all over the world are looking for PADI instructors. This is an opportunity for a career change beyond your imagination!
Step Five: SPECIALTY INSTRUCTOR. There are two ways by which you can become certified to teach one of the 27 different PADI specialties. Method 1 entails taking a Specialty Instructor course from a PADI Course Director who is a Specialty Instructor Trainer in that specialty. Method 2, which is available only to instructors who have issued at least 25 certifications, involves a direct application to PADI. The obvious advantage of Method 1 is that it will get you certified more quickly and will provide you with the knowledge and tools you need to do an excellent job of teaching the specialty that interests you. See our page on SPECIALTY INSTRUCTOR for more information.
Step Six: MASTER SCUBA DIVE INSTRUCTOR. After becoming an Open Water Scuba Instructor, it is only natural that you would want to move up the PADI instructor ladder. The Master Scuba Diver Trainer rating sets you apart from other dive instructors by showing your commitment to continuing your dive training and being prepared to help others continue their training as well. You also get to teach specialty diver courses – which opens the door to lots of fun while working. See our page on MSDT Prep. to learn how we can help you get to MSDT faster.
Step Seven: IDC STAFF INSTRUCTOR. As a seasoned PADI Instructor, you have wisdom and experience to share with up-and-coming PADI leaders. And, you know that continuing your education never ends. As an Instructor Development Course (IDC) Staff Instructor, you help bring up the next generation of PADI Instructors while gaining in-depth instructor-trainer knowledge. If you are a MSDT and are interested in participating in instructor development, see our page on IDC STAFF INSTRUCTOR to learn you you can advance to the next level.
Instructor Crossover
The PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) program enables recreational
scuba instructors certified through other certification organizations to become PADI Instructors. This program acknowledges that participants are already scuba instructors with some degree of experience and teaching ability, so it focuses on allowing them to explore the PADI System of diver education, rather than on developing basic teaching techniques. The course is designed to encourage participants to first analyze and understand the PADI System and then work on adapting their instructional skills to properly conduct PADI courses. See our page on INSTRUCTOR CROSSOVER to learn how you can qualify to join the PADI family.Status Update
If you let your PADI membership lapse and are no longer in teaching status, it may be necessary for you to complete a Status Update program. You should first contact PADI Training & QM (1-800-729-2540, x2540) to learn what steps you will need to take to regain teaching status. Each case is different, based largely on how long you have been out of teaching status, so you will need to obtain instructions directly from PADI Training & QM on how you need to proceed. If a Status Update program is in order, they will advise us on precisely what material needs to be covered in order to help you regain teaching status. Information on this program is contained in our page on STATUS UPDATE.
