STATUS UPDATE

Prerequisite Verification
Any PADI Instructor may attend a Status Update. This program is a very effective refresher course covering essential information presented during an IDC.
If a Status Update is required in order to regain Teaching Status, eligibility must first be established with PADI Training & Quality Management. While the requirements to regain teaching status are changed from time to time and are based on several factors, including the period not renewed and any program, standards and procedures, and material changes since last renewed, the requirements at present are as follows:
|
Time PADI Membership Lapsed |
Requirement |
| 1-3 years | Complete On-Line Status Update |
| 4 years | Complete Status Update with Course Director |
| 5-6 years | Complete OWSI Program |
| > 7 years | Complete OWSI Program PLUS IE |
Please note that this table is presented for informational purposes only. If you have allowed your membership to lapse, you should first contact PADI Training & QM to obtain a Teaching Status Options Letter to explain exactly what you must do to regain Teaching Status. You will then have the remainder of that calendar year to exercise one of the available options.
Course Content
Status Update is normally a two day program, but specific individual requirements may vary. The typical program consists of a Standards Revisions Review and New Materials Orientation covering changes that occurred during the period of lapsed membership. Additionally, four of the IDC curriculum components are covered:
- General Standards & Procedures
- Legal Responsibility and Risk Managementg
- Business Principles for the Dive Professional
- The PADI Continuing Education Philosophy
Cost
The normal cost for a Status Update will be $500. However, if you are required to take a Status Update then you will need to verify the cost after you have been advised by PADI Training & QM exactly what requirements apply to your particular situation.
